Job Description:

Provide radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiologist according to established practices and standards. Duties may include reviewing prescription and diagnosis; acting as liaison with physician and supportive care personnel; preparing equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices; and maintaining records, reports, and files. May assist in dosimetry procedures and tumor localization.

Radiation therapists treat cancer and other diseases in patients by administering radiation treatments.

How to Become One:

Radiation therapy programs are offered at many colleges in the way of certificate, associate's degree and bachelor's degree programs. The length of the program varies by level of study. Certificate programs take a year, while associate's degree programs require two years of study. In West Virginia, licensure must be obtained from the WV Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners.
