Job Description:
Assist occupational therapists in providing occupational therapy treatments and procedures. May, in accordance with State laws, assist in development of treatment plans, carry out routine functions, direct activity programs, and document the progress of treatments. Generally requires formal training.
What Occupational Therapy Assistant Do:
Occupational therapy assistants and aides help patients develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Occupational therapy assistants are directly involved in providing therapy to patients and work under the direction of occupational therapists.
How to Become One:
The minimum education requirement for an occupational therapy assistant is a two-year associates degree. The degree should be from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association. University of Charleston - Beckley is the only accredited program in West Virginia.
