What Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technologist Do:
Medical laboratory technologists (commonly known as medical laboratory scientists) collect samples and perform tests to analyze body fluids, tissue, and other substances.
How to Become One:
Earn a bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or another life science. Become certified as a medical laboratory scientist by a recognized, professional association. Certification programs are offered by the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the American Medical Technologists, the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and the American Association of Bioanalysts. In West Virginia, you must apply and receive a license from the secretary (of West Virginia DHHR) as a clinical laboratory practitioner.
